Question bank updates

The theory exam questions are set by Romania's Directorate General for Driving Licences and Vehicle Registration (DGPCI). When the official question bank changes, we update our tests to match. Each change is recorded here. DGPCI publishes its questions in Romanian only; our English category B test is our own translation.

19 October 2026

We compared our category B and A tests with DGPCI's current official bank, question by question: the wording, the answer options, the correct answers and the pictures. Our bank came from an older version that still held questions DGPCI has since removed or reworded. From 19 October 2026 our tests have exactly the questions of the official bank, with the official wording, option order, correct answers and pictures. The English category B test (our translation) was updated in the same way.

What changed

  • Category B: 911 questions stayed and took the official wording; DGPCI had reworded 267 of them, and 209 have their answer options in a different order. 297 official questions were added, 110 of them with a picture. 523 were removed: 357 are no longer in the official bank, 105 were older wordings of questions DGPCI has reworded, and 61 were duplicates.
  • Category A (Romanian only): 317 questions stayed (39 reworded, 12 with the options in a different order), 101 were added (32 with a picture), and 68 were removed because they are no longer in the official bank.
  • The correct answer changed in one category B question and four category A questions (listed below). In three of the category A questions more than one option is now correct.
  • Practice groups follow the order of the official bank: 14 groups in category B (86–87 questions each) and 4 in category A (104–105).
  • Every new question has an explanation checked against Government Emergency Ordinance 195/2002 and its implementing regulations, as amended to date. After the update we rechecked the explanations that had been flagged and corrected 27 questions (49 explanations in Romanian and English).

Changed answers

  1. You must use low-beam headlights during the day: (B) — now: “on all categories of public roads”.
  2. What can a gauze dressing on an open wound do? (A) — now: “stop the bleeding” and “prevent infection”.
  3. Casualties can be taken to hospital by: (A) — all three options are now correct, including “an ambulance with a doctor on board”.
  4. While riding a motorcycle, you must not: (A) — now: “use a mobile phone, unless it has a hands-free device” and “carry passengers who are drunk”.
  5. A police officer’s left arm held out horizontally means stop for: (A) — now: “vehicles coming from the front”.

Where the official answer no longer matches the law

The exam marks the official answer. In a few questions of the current bank it no longer matches the law in force. Our explanations give the answer the exam expects and what the law says.

QuestionOfficial answerLaw in force
The traffic police officer may order a vehicle to be immobilised when: (B, and one similar question)“the driver refuses to show identification”Government Emergency Ordinance 84/2024 rewrote article 117 of Ordinance 195/2002 from 27 October 2024, and refusing to show identification is no longer a case for immobilisation.
Must motor vehicles be equipped with a first-aid kit? (B)“yes, all motor vehicles that travel on public roads”Since 13 April 2024 Law 82/2024 exempts motor vehicles of categories AM, A1, A2 and A (article 8 of Ordinance 195/2002).

13 October 2026

We corrected 80 category B questions: broken characters, lost decimal commas, cut-off text and explanations that misstated the law or the picture. No correct answer changed. The same day the English category B test went live, our translation of DGPCI’s questions.
